Photo/MIKE MALONEY It just wasn't meant to be their night. Acombination of silent bats, miscues and bad timing by the Orangeville Kings all added up to a 9-5 loss against the visiting Hillsburgh Stallions in Intercounty Fastball play at Idlewyld Park on Tuesday night.

Heading into a busy week on the home stretch of the regular season schedule, the league leading Kings found themselves behind the 8-ball early when Stallions Pete Cargill cashed in a pair of runners on a double of Orangeville pitcher Rick Zeggil in the first inning.

Mike Brooks RBI single in the bottom of two would cut the deficit to one but a throwing error to third in Hillsburgh's half of three put them back ahead 3-1.

With two out and runners on second and third in the top of five, Hillsburgh widened their lead on a short single that caught the green in right field making it 5-1 before Orangeville could retire the side.

Kenny Wilton got the ball rolling for Orangeville, leading off the Kings half of five with a single then Gord Zeggil brought him home on a triple that made its way to the fence in left.

Kent Campbell kept the rally going to score Zeggil on a single. Going with the short ball, Orangeville kept chipping away at Stallions starter Jeff Detta and by the time the inning finally ended, Jeff Donaldson and Greg Hickey each brought home a base runner to tie the score at 5-5.

A classic three up, three down in the sixth and having two outs in the top of the seventh, Orangeville looked to set the stage for a possible come from behind win in the bottom of the final inning, but Hillsburgh soon found themselves with the bases loaded. It was Cargill doing the damage, tagging a short chop over second into centre to score a pair followed by two more on singles before Orangeville could get the final out.

Detta would take down Rich Long on strikes, Don Serre at first and Donaldson down swinging to retire the side and give Hillsburgh the 9-5 victory.
