Chamber plans all-candidates meetings

The Greater Dufferin Area Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday that it will host two provincial election all-candidates meetings.

The first will be held at Orangeville District Secondary School next Tuesday, September 18 at 7 p.m. and the second will be on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Grace Tipling Hall in Shelburne.

The chamber said all four candidates currently seeking election in Dufferin-Caledon riding have indicated that they will attend.

'Apple Day' at the market

The Orangeville Farmers' Market feature for this Saturday, Sept. 15, is "Apple Day," when visitors can enter a free weekly draw to win a bushel of apples.

Children will receive a free apple at the play station when they visit Helen and Peter Danchuk's booth where they sell perogies, sausages and cabbage rolls.

Shannon Crippen of "Germinate" handcrafted designs has donated a bracelet made from natural and recycled materials to be won this week at the draw table.

Last week's winner of the draw to join Keith Hunter at his "Touch of Magic" booth is Lorraine from Orangeville. Winners of the bouquets of sunflowers were Marcia Galea, Stan Churly, and Gloria Hill. Isabella Bailey won the Little Tykes farm set.

The popular and very lively Orangepeel Morris Dancers will be performing Saturday at 10 a.m. The local group of 10 artists known as "Headwaters Studios" will also be at the market promoting their upcoming "Art of Apple and More" studio tour Oct. 12- 14.

The Orangeville Lions Club will be selling tickets during September to win $20,000 in raffle prizes to further develop Murray's Mountain and Lions Park. and Government Affairs Committee, will serve as moderator and Ron Munro, Vice-President of the Dufferin Federation of Agriculture, will be the time keeper.

Each candidate will open with a five-minute statement. They will be followed by an open question period and the evenings will wrap up with statements from each candidate.

"It's important that resident of Dufferin County understand where their candidates stand on issues that are important to this riding as well as understanding the party positions on larger issues," said Chamber President Bruce Campbell.

The Greater Dufferin Area Chamber of Commerce represents the business community of Dufferin County and wants to ensure that the party elected on Oct. 10 to govern our province will work to improve the provincial economy and build a more prosperous Ontario.

"There are many issues that have an impact on the growth of business in Ontario and we all share a responsibility to make sure our elected representatives reflect those needs," said Mr. Campbell.
