      TERRY FOX RUN: The 27th edition of the Terry Fox run, Sunday saw a hardy crowd of 146 runners traverse a 10 km or 5 km route around town, Sunday. The event raised $11,856.26. Greg Verner, organizer for the past 25-years, is looking for a volunteer to take over the run next year.

      THE HOME SHOP in Orangeville donated eight lamps to be lit and on display in homes included on the 13th annual Headwaters Health Care Auxiliary House Tour. Additionally, the Home Shop is donating a $400 Rouge de Champs Limoges porcelain Lampe Berger for a raffle during the tour, held last weekend.

      AFTER THREE SUCCESSFUL years in Orangeville, Café Uno has opened a location in Toronto's Distillery District. To celebrate, owner Susan Chow (pictured) recently held a customer appreciation day at the Orangeville location on Broadway. She says the larger Toronto location allows her to display her full vision of the café.

Community band starting up tonight
      For those who used to play an instrument and have given it up because of either a lack of time or people to play with, a new community band is starting in Orangeville tonight and everyone is welcome to join. While players don't have to be expert musicians to join, Dave Lewars, one of the organizers, suggests participants have about two years' experience playing in bands.

Headwaters had a baby boom this past August
      Headwaters Health Care Centre's obstetrical team had a busy month in August. A record 99 babies were welcomed into the world at the hospital, including two sets of twins. This is the highest monthly number of deliveries in the hospital's 95-year history.

Mother, daughter charged in shoplifting operation
      A mother and daughter face theft charges in connection with what Shelburne Police say was a massive shoplifting operation that took place over a nearly 10- month period. Police called to the local Giant Tiger store were informed that two women had been apprehended after being witnessed trying to conceal items they had taken off the shelves.

UFC legend teaches workshop in Orangeville
      Royce Gracie of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and K-1 Pride fame, was in Orangeville on Sunday to teach students at the Johanis' Karate School. With a string of submission wins during the mid- 90s, Mr. Gracie quickly became well known. When the UFC began it was an eight-man single-elimination tournament with few rules.
