Home proved to be the best place to be for the Orangeville Kings, evening up their best of three playoff series against Hillsburgh at 1-1 with a decisive 8-2 win over the Stallions on Tuesday night.

Coming into the series holding home advantage, the Kings were forced to play game one in Hillsburgh last Thursday after being rained out on Tuesday.

With Stallions number one pitcher Jeff Detta on the mound, Orangeville was not able to get much going in the way of offence and Hillsburgh managed to take an early series lead by squeaking out a 4-3 win.

Back at Idlewyld Park Tuesday night, Joel Presley was given the nod for his second start in as many games for Orangeville.

In the second inning, Presley pitched his way out of early trouble with two out and the bases loaded, serving up a pop fly pitch to end the inning. He would not be so fortunate in the top of the third, however, as Hillsburgh manage to score a pair of a single to take an early 2-0 lead.

Orangeville would get one back in their half of three when Gord Zeggil chipped one between the bases to score Don Serre from second.

In the fourth though, the Kings' bats finally came to life. Apair of lead off singles from Kent Campbell and Rich Long set things in motion for Orangeville. Rick Zeggil earned an RBI scoring Campbell while Serre tagged a single off a full count to bring home another pair.

Short stop Mike Brooks was next to get in the swing, sending a fastball deep over the centre field fence. Gord Zeggil followed with a solo shot to right field for a 7-2 Kings lead and ending the night for Detta who came in to relieve an injured Chris Peavoy who started on the Stallions mound.

Campbell continued the rally, taking one out over centre as lead off batter in the bottom of five before Hillsburgh could get their defence back on track.

Down 8-2 in the seventh, the visitors looked like they might get something going but smart play by the Kings infield turned a double play at second then first to end the game and force a third and final outing between the squads to determine the series winner.

Game three is set to go Thursday night on the Idlewyld diamond, scheduled start time for this match is 9 p.m.
