New street racing law in effect
      Although early reports indicate 44 drivers provincewide have been charged with the new law that addresses street racing, no driver in Dufferin, according to its police services, have been charged under the new regulation that went into effect midnight, last Saturday.

      A perfect autumn day greeted hundreds of area residents that ventured out to participate in The Maples School Fall Festival. Keachie new DCFS director
      Trish Keachie will be assuming the role of executive director of Dufferin Child and Family Services on Nov. 19, replacing Gary Putman, who will be retiring after 29 years in the position.

Baywinds, skate park still bones of contention
      If Monday's Orangeville Council meeting was any indication, the Baywinds Centre and the Rotary Skate Park continue to be contentious issues within the community. Baywinds aims to provide shelter for disadvantaged individuals in the community who, under normal circumstances, could end up homeless.

      DUFFERIN HI-LANDS CLUB hosted 350 visitors, Sunday, at the Mono Cliffs Provincial Park as part of the sixth annual Bruce Trail Day, that included organized hikes through the park. The Bruce Trail this year is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Circle of Storytellers at museum Oct. 19
      Dufferin County Museum and Archives and the Dufferin Arts Council will present the Dufferin Circle of Storytellers in Historic Corbetton Church on Friday evening, Oct. 19. There'll be seasonal stories by some of the "usual suspects" with live musical accompaniment by Harpist, Lianne Gorelle in the intimate surroundings of Corbetton Church on the Museum grounds.

HHCC was 'home away from home'
      Anyone who harbours doubts about Headwaters Health Care Centre should have a chat with Hannah Sawyer, the widow of Barry Laverne Sawyer, her husband for 45 happy years. Hannah, who had been prepared by the family physician fairly well in advance of her husband's passing, was nonetheless somewhat apprehensive about having him spend his final days in an institution.

      MONO TRAIL was launched, Wednesday, when the Town invited residents to the official opening of the trail - a new 923 metres of multi-surface trailways that will eventually become linked to the Island Lake Conservation Area's Vicki Barron trail. Mono took the opportunity of the grand opening of the trail to participate in the World Record Walk.

Local officer remembers fallen relative
      Last Sunday, thousands of police and peace officers from across Canada descended on Ottawa's Parliament Hill to remember four of their comrades who died in the line of duty over the past year. Among the fallen was Det. Const. Robert Plunkett of the York Regional Police, killed Aug. 2 while trying to make an arrest.

Dufferin OPP has its first 'holstein' cruiser
      Once again, the terms "black and white" or "holstein" will be appropriate monikers for an Ontario police patrol car. The Ontario Provincial Police are phasing out the current fleet of all-white cruisers with blue and gold striping - which have been in place since 1993 - and replacing them with the black-and-white vehicles once seen on Ontario highways.

ESR begins for 4 small local wind farms
      Roger Short, whose original groundwork and wind studies led to Canadian Hydro Developers' industrial scale projects in Melancthon and Amaranth, has commenced Environmental Screening for four 9 MW projects locally. Two of those are in Melancthon, north of Shelburne, and two are in Grey Highlands, north and west of there.
