A fair school system?
Funding for faith-based schools the John Tory way, on the surface of it, looks to be fair. Following the public curriculum is no problem as far as the level of learning is concerned. This has been proven many times over by students from Christian elementary schools who attended public high schools afterwards. However, the public school system is really also a faithbased school.
Its basis is humanism, man is the measure of all things and as such, according to 2 Cor. 10:12 . . . are not wise. Evolution presented as science is its doctrine. Evolution and the belief in God are mutually exclusive. You cannot believe both at the same time. Good Christian parental schools teach that God created the world in six days about 6000 years ago. God as creator and therefore owner of the universe rightly sets the standard for our conduct in the Bible. He wrote on two tablets of stone on Mount Sinai the 10 commandments of which nine state "Thou Shalt Not . . ." etc.
The underlying intent and meaning is summed up in Matthew 22: 37, 39 "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind . .
. and you shall love your neighbour as yourself." No hint of discrimination there! Christian Parents, when their children are baptized before God and His congregation, promise to raise them up in the Christian religion and the fear of the Lord. The extended arm of the authority of the parents is the Christian school which endeavours to further teach their children in the way they should go (Proverbs 27:6), also in academic matters.
Sylvia Jones, in her letter to the newspaper, makes it clear that there are strings attached by accepting public funding. Premier Dalton McGuinty is opposed to + 500 million dollars being "taken away from the public system," On TV he advertises that he loves the public school system, but I have learned he and his wife and children went to a faith based publicly funded Roman Catholic school. That to me has the makings of being a hypocrite.
The tax dollars from parents outside the public school system are used to promote the ideology of humanism and that is considered to be fair! The Bible has warned us Christians that we would be discriminated against and even persecuted (John 16:33). I like to see a Canada that IS glorious and free and where God has dominion from sea to sea (Psalm 72:8).
