Flames edge Leafs 5-4
The Caravan Kids Flames squeezed out a victory over the Secure Insurance Leafs in the first game of the regular season.
This game was a close one right to the end as the Flames scored a late goal in the third to take home the victory.
The goal tending was great in this game as Tyler Drensek for the Flames and Alex Kampen for the Leafs kept the game close and exciting.
The Leafs jumped out to an early 2 goal lead on goals by Patrick Vaughan assisted by Artie Lafontaine, and Lafontaine scoring assisted by John Cummins.
Brandon Amos got one back for the Flames assisted by Trent Paterson and Caleb March to end the first period.
Evan Manzke opened the scoring in the second period for the Flames assisted by Amos and Noah Dobrzanski to tie the game at 2.
The Leafs fired back with two goals, the first from Lafontaine unassisted, and the second by Brodie Fadden assisted from Vaughan to give the Leafs a 4 - 2 lead heading into the third.
The Flames never gave up and came out to play hard in the third period.
Amos got things started early with a goal assisted by Manzke and Dobrzanski in the first minute of the third period. Then Kyle Burke tied the game for the Flames with an unassisted goal with less than 2 minutes left in the game.
The last minute of the game saw both teams battle back and forth, then Manzke picked up the puck at his own blue line with 10 seconds left in the game and skated hard down the ice to get a shot on Leafs goalie Kampen who made the save but Manzke banged in the rebound with .1 of a second left on the clock to win the game for the Flames by a 5 - 4 score.
