Solid effort rewarded with win for Flyers
Despite being short five players from their regular roster, the Major Bantam AA Flyers put in a solid effort and were rewarded with a 3-1 win over Acton on November 14th.
With center Mike Traves (broken foot), defenceman Jay Musgrave (broken collarbone) and winger Will Escoffery (broken wrist) on the injured list, the team also had a pair of players sitting the game out as a result of recent on ice altercations.
Captain Eric Franco was sitting a game misconduct and defenceman Breandan Madden serving his third of a three game sentence.
To shore up their roster the Flyers called up Devon Alexander, John Hammond and Robert Farace from the AE squad and all three made the most of this opportunity.
Orangeville opened the scoring at 2:45 of the first on a goal by Alexander, who played a solid game, assisted by Connor McCabe and Zach Zolteck.
Midway through the second, Brandon Armstrong wrapped one around the Acton net with the help of Brett Snell and Chris Roach.
McCabe finished off the second period with his shot on a pass from Hammond, with John Dixon also adding an assist.
Acton responded quickly after the puck dropped in the third beating Flyers goalie Ryan Mantle to make it 3-1 where the score would remain until the final buzzer.
The game saw a total of 58 minutes in penalties, including coincidental games to Chris Roach and his Acton counterpart.
