A real challenge for budget-setters
THERE'S SURELY NO DOUBT that we're in for a White Christmas - and if the meteorological experts are right, maybe a White Easter, as well.
In the circumstances, it might be a good idea for our municipal politicians and their Treasury staffs to be looking seriously at not reducing their budgets for snow plowing and/or snow removal.
At the County level, it would also be a great idea for an immediate approach to Queen's Park, advising that if the Province wants former highways 9 and 24 given highway-style winter maintenance, they're going to have to share the cost. Otherwise, the county should abandon the "bare surface" standard, with local sand replacing the costly, environment-hurting road salt.
