Another voice in landfill battle
I would like to add my voice to the growing number of Mono Township citizens who are strongly opposed to the direction being taken by the Mono Council concerning the Mono Landfill site.
According to the Ministry of the Environment the landfill site is a sand and gravel sieve, leaching toxic materials, bacteria and viruses into the surrounding area.
The current proposed expropriation of land will not remedy this situation. As the long term survival of this site is highly improbable, it would seem misguided to invest further in an unsuitable location and then expand the problem by extending the area involved.
To expropriate a 66-acre parcel of land with 2 houses and a barn in this area for $425,000.00 is unconscionable. I'm sure any member of council would feel it unfair if the property in question belonged to them.
We are privileged to live in one of the most beautiful natural areas in this country. Why then is the council not taking this opportunity to make pro active, modern choices of which we can all be proud.
