Column on CBC 'fabulous'
Subject: Re: It's all about the money again
What a fabulous article that was, making clear to all Canadians why CBC did what they did. I have followed CBC's reporting on the human rights abuses around the world and I have found that CBC has intentionally stayed away from the atrocities in China in particular.
I think CBC somehow has lost its sight when they are so busy going after the Americans for all the wrongdoings of the U.S. government. CBC has constantly ignored more horrific crimes in other parts of the world. Although we did hear a little bit about how CBC reflected on its lack of reporting when Rwanda's genocide was occurring, CBC has not truly changed its mentalities or its perspectives. They report in much more details about the treatment of the detainees in Guantanamo than they ever would about some very serious problems in China, for examples the AIDS epidemic, the forced abortions of women due to the only-one-child policy, the suppression of Tibetans, the underground Christian churches and the unlucky Falun Gong movement in China.
The CBC, like many other corporations, has its eyes on the potential market of 1 billion people in China. They might not know how they could get into that market but they sure don't want to upset the gatekeeper of that place. So having ignored such large scale of human tragedies enforced on Falun Gong group, CBC finally decided to do something about the story in order to stay creditable since many Canadians have already heard the persecution of Falun Gong. Is CBC still relevant in bringing the news we haven't heard?
On the note of boycotting of the Olympic Games, I wonder, are Olympics in Beijing still sports or another huge enterprise that many countries, many athletes and many, many companies all have a stake in?
