11 racing charges laid in last month

Even in winter driving conditions, Dufferin OPP officers are busy seizing vehicles and suspending driver's licences under the new provincial racing legislation.

Constable Al Buck said the detachment laid 11 racing charges in the fiveweek period ending Jan. 17.

All the drivers charged were male, their ages ranging from 29 to 83.

Following is the list of incidents involving allegations of driving more than 50 km/h over the legal speed limit.

• December 13: 136 km/h on County Road 18 in Mono; a 41-year-old Oakville man is charged.

• December 20: 136 km/h on County Road 18 in Mono; a 52-year-old Collingwood man is charged.

• December 28: 133 km/h on Highway 10 in Melancthon; a 47-year-old Barrie man is charged.

• December 28: 142 km/h on County Road 18 in Mono; a 44-year-old Collingwood man is charged.

• December 29: 131 km/h on County Road 18 in Mono; a 38-year-old Amaranth man is charged.

• December 29: 157 km/h on County Road 18 in Mono; a 47-year-old Brampton man is charged.

• December 30: 130 km/h on County Road 11 in Amaranth; a 29-yearold Brampton man is charged.

• January 6: 112 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Highway 10 in Mono; a 43-year-old Mississauga man is charged.

• January 13: 165 km/h on County Road 18 in Mono; a 61-year-old Mississauga man is charged.

• January 17: 140 km/h on Highway 10 in Mono; an 83-year-old Innisfil man is charged.

• January 17: 117 km/hr in a 60 km/h zone on Highway 10 in the Town of Mono; a 42-yearold Orangeville man in charged.

Each of the above received an immediate seven-day driver's licence suspension and had their vehicle impounded for seven days. "There is zero tolerance for excessive speed," Cst. Buck said. "Please do your part; we are doing ours."
