2008-02-07 / Local News

The Town of Orangeville is running "Get Fit for Heart Health" programs to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and awareness about healthy living.

The event kicked off last week in the Alder Recreation Centre and will wrap up on February 27 between 8:30 and 9:20 a.m. at the Tony Rose Sports Centre, with prizes and awards.

Organizer Corrin Smithson, of the Parks & Recreation Department, says this year's fundraising goal is $4,000. Swim for Heart Lake

Ontario Challenge

Participants are invited to swim the equivalent width of Lake Ontario during the month of February. The width is 85 km total, 3400 lengths of a 25 m pool. You can challenge the event as an individual or as a team. Just think if you get a team of seven people you will only have to swim 97 lengths per week! The race began on January 28. To join a team please contact Corrin Smithson at the Tony Rose Sports Centre at 519-941- 0120.

Once you have decided on your goal, pick up a pledge form and tracking card at the pool services desk at the Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre or the Alder Street Recreation Centre. Remember the Heart and Stroke Foundation offers prizes based on funds raised - the more you raise, the bigger the prize. Run/Walk for Heart Great Lakes Challenge
