Drivers - not the weather

2008-02-07 / Mailbox

According to Paul Hutchings, another "blast of winter" was responsible for "causing accidents" on Dufferin's roads recently (article Jan.31). Really? According to authorities like Sgt. John Coghlan, and Dave Woodford and Cam Wooley, it's drivers: "The best thing to do, he(Coghlan) said, is listen to the weather reports and don't venture out in bad weather."

Not surprisingly, many drivers think they can outwit the police as evidenced in the attempts of some to drive around police road closures. But while they may be able to evade barriers, they cannot outwit Nature. The truth is that there are no true accidents. They are all driver- caused; neither snow or rain or sunshine or ice cause them. It's just drivers not paying attention to good advice and staying home, instead of rushing home at top July speed in a howling blizzard. Madness.
