Crushers drop Villanova 10-2
Heading down the home stretch of the regular season, the Orangeville Crushers took their show on the road this past weekend with games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week.
First up was a match against the Stoufville Spirit. Orangeville's power-play unit wasted no time getting to work when Tyler Turcotte opened the scoring just over a minute into the opening frame.
Robert Visca and Devin Mantha each added power-play markers of their own before Norm Ezekiel's goal from Nicholas Vassos and Visca would give the Crushers a 4-2 lead early in the second.
Stouffville would battle back to tie it before going up 5-4 just under seven minutes into the third.
Looking for the equalizer, Orangeville opted to pull goalie Eddie Davey in favour of the extra attacker ,only to get burned for a pair of empty netters to make the final score 7-4 for Stouffville.
The following night, it was off to Aurora for a preview of their playoff pairing against the Tigers.
Again it was Orangeville getting out to an early lead with the Visca and Vassos combining for a power-play goal at 11:41 of the first.
Aurora would answer back a minute later after Paul Dupont beat Davey with his first of three goals he would score that night.
Vassos would add another to his season tally off the top of the second to even the score at 2-2 but penalty trouble gave Aurora more opportunities which they were not about to waste. They added another pair to go up 4-2 where the score would remain until the final buzzer.
A date Saturday night with Villanova would be just what the doctor ordered to shake off this pair of losses.
Starting just under two minutes into the game, David Harris set the pace for Orangeville teaming up with Mantha and David Mathers to open the scoring.
Before the period was out, Matt Crilly and Nicholas Hewko had added singles while Kai Trudeau chipped in his first of three on the night.
By the time the clock wound out the sixty minutes, Visca would add another pair of goals while Colin Moberly and Colin Murray rounded off the score at 10-2 with singles late in the third.
This weekend, its back home to the Alder Street arena for a wrap up of the regular season schedule.
Friday night its Stoufville occupying the visitors bench while Saturday, Seguin will make the trip south one last time to do battle with the Crushers before Orangeville kicks off their playoff run against Aurora the following week.
