Wolves howl in 'ravine

The Orangeville Wolves travelled to Grandravine recently for a game against the Tornadoes.

The Wolves are a team of developmentally challenged athletes who take to the ice with a fun first attitude.

Travis Grist opened the scoring for Orangeville in this one scoring his first of four on the day. Wolves veterans Dougie Myers and Joshua Sibley set up Grist for the opener.

On the same shift Grist picked up his second of the game with James Mastine and MacKenzie Gidge drawing the helpers.

Dougie Myers then scored for the Wolves to close out the first period on a nice feed in the slot from Sibley;Gidge drew the second assist.

Grist kept firing with two more in the second.

The first was off a Matthew DePrinse rebound with Mastine drawing the second assist while Sibley and Myers again combined to set up the second.

Wolves veteran Adam Thompson making only his second career start in goal was stellar stopping three breakaways in the first period and a half alone.

He gave way to Adam Brown at the midway point of the second frame and Brown continued the strong play in goal for the remainder of the game.

DePrinse accounted for all of the Wolves scoring in the third period potting four.

Myers set him up for the first one with Myers and Jason Armstrong teaming up to set up the second. Michael McCreary and Wolves rookie Matthew Moore did the spade work for the third goal while Frankie Spagnolo and rookie Daniel Melo provided the assists on the Wolves final goal.

Wolves veteran Scottie Van Gerven showed off some improved skating skills despite not reaching the scoresheet.

The Wolves new mascot "Howler" the Wolf made his debut at the game as well and was popular with both teams.

The Wolves next home game is on Sunday Feb. 10th at 12:30 at Alder St. arena in the Green Rink vs. Newmarket.
