Minor Atom AA Flyers playoff role
After three games in the first round of tournament play the Minor Atom AA Flyers have won two games and home and lost one on road.
Game 1 vs. Flamborough
The Flyers kicked off their playoff run with a decisive 5 - 1 win over the Flamborough Sabres.
Andrew Gourlie lead the way for Orangeville with two goals and two assists.
Patrick Sonoski also had an amazing game notching two goals and one assist while Mason Emoff delivered a goal and an assist. Additional assists go to Ben Hawerchuk and Tyler Nother
Game 2 vs. Oakville Despite a 5-3 loss, the Flyers had their best showing against the Oakville Rangers this season.
The team rallied end to end with every player giving it their all.
Matthew Berry opened the scoring for this game early in the first with the help of Cody Knight.
The Rangers came back in the second period to take a 3-1 lead.
Mitchell Elsley scored early in the third period with Matthew Berry and Ben Hawerchuk assisting his goal.
Mason Emoff scored one minute later with another assist from Berry to tie the game before Oakville would rally and score a pair of unanswered goals to secure the win.
Game 3 vs. Stoney Creek
The Minor Atom AA Flyers played perhaps their tightest game of the season versus the Stoney Creek Warriors to post an exciting 2-1 win.
After two periods of scoreless hockey, Stoney Creek would strike first then quickly transitioned to defensive mode in an attempt to hang onto a slim one goal lead.
Refusing to fold, the Flyers didn't give up and with just over six minutes left in the game, Kyle Cunningham scored the tying goal on an assist by Grant Girouard to even the score at 1-1 where it would remain through the balance of regulation time.
With less than 30 seconds on the clock remaining in the extra frame, Emoff won a draw deep in the Flyers zone, getting the puck back to defenseman Ryan Hutterer who then proceeded to break past two Warrior players to feed the puck back to Emoff.
Sensing opportunity, Emoff rushed the Warrior goal, tucking one past their goaltender with 18 seconds left to play.
The Warriors bench contested the goal, but it stood and Orangeville rightfully registered the win.
