The Vantastic Slam

There has been much talk over the last few months about what to do with the Tony Rose Arena in Orangeville.

Some say it should close, others say they need to keep it open, and others say it should be taken over by a private company.

Recently I was taken on a tour of the Brampton YMCA.

I must admit that I have always had a notion that the YMCA was a dirty little gymnasium with mats on the floor and a couple of hockey nets at each end.

I was absolutely floored when we drove up to the building which is roughly the same size as the Tony Rose Arena.

Upon entering the building I was greeted with smile and a very helpful person behind the counter.

I was told of how affordable it was and that they even had special rates for families. If that wasn't enough they also had a program for people with low income.

The swimming pool was phenomenal and featured a hot tub whirlpool at one end. The change rooms were very clean and well maintained.

They had a walking track, gymnasium, games room, a workout room, rock climbing and a play area much like a McDonalds play land.

All in all it was a first class place and from what I see, Orangeville is in desperate need of such a facility.

Perhaps the Town of Orangeville could look into this and try to unload the old building for such an idea.

I'm sure the Provincial Government would be on board, especially if it helps get youngsters active.

CRUSHERS CORNER Congratulations to the Orangeville Crushers who have made the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons.

They will play the Aurora Tigers in the first round who just happen to be the defending Canadian champions. After winding up their regular season schedule this weekend, they will start the playoffs on the road next Thursday night February 14th and return home for game two on Saturday February 16th. AROUND THE RING...

Triple H missed this past Monday's RAW broadcast due to a family emergency. The WWE was also taping the following weeks RAW due to an International tour this week, so Trips will not be on next week's RAW either... The WWE will be returning to Toronto in May for a live RAWbroadcast. Monday May 5th is the date if you want to get tickets... Rick Steiner, Senshi and Raven have all parted ways with TNA... Former TNA star Chris Harris has stated that he has signed a contract with the WWE... And word is that Bobby Lashley was fired from the WWE by Vince McMahon himself because Lashley was complaining to much backstage.

That's all for this week, as always I love hearing your thoughts and questions so send them to MIKEVANTASTIC@HO TMAIL.COM

Until next time remember, I'm not just good, I'm VAN TASTIC!
