Community of wonderful people
On the weekend of Feb.10 all roads in and out of Shelburne were closed from around Sunday noon till 8 o'clock Monday morning. The one small motel was full since mid day!
We were directed to the arena for emergency lodging. On arrival,we were offered a free roast beef dinner with all the trimmings as a " Jamboree" was being held and they had lots left over as there were many no-shows due to the weather! HOW FORTUNATE!
An OPP officer arrived, saw our predicament and very shortly he returned with more than enough blankets to keep everyone comfortable throughout the long night. He and a local police officer kept checking on us and updating on the road conditions.
The young arena attendant stayed the night and brought out all the exercise pads to cushion the wood floor for some. The big coffee urn was left for us with cream and sugar as well as cake that had been left over!
One of the organizers and his wife extended an invitation to six first arrivals to sleep in their home which was terrific but there were eventually too many of us to accept such a kind offer.
You have a community of generous and wonderful people of which you can be very proud and we extend our heartfelt THANKS for all your courtesies!
