TO sets summer Young Company auditions

2008-03-13 / Local News

"If you love to sing, or act, or both, join us for a summer of creative theatre and great fun!"

So reads the press release from Theatre Orangeville announcing plans for its summer Young Company auditions.

The company hopes to draw at least a few kids away from television, the Internet and video games this summer, by offering two unique programs.

The Musical Theatre Young Company, runs July 2-19, and the Drama Young Company from July 21 to August 4 (an intensive five- week program). Both companies are for youths aged 11-18.

Theatre Orangeville is proud to provide young people, many for the first time, with the unforgettable opportunity to experience the transporting power of theatre - that entertains, stimulates and educates. These programs foster sound moral development, encourage self-expression, ignite the desire to read and advance the development of these youths as creative members of our community.

These programs are promoted as a fun and affordable way for your youth to experience theatre. No previous experience is required, just a love of performing and an active imagination!

The culmination in both of these programs is a presentation of a full play or musical that allows the children to apply their theatrical technique and showcases their talent on the stage of Theatre Orangeville. Past works have included the junior version of the hit Broadway musical, Les Miserables, as well as Peter Pan, Guys and Dolls and How to Eat Like a Child.

The focus is on ensemble work, with each child stepping forward to display his/her skill and development. Every child is involved and is a star in these shows.

Auditions will be held on Monday March 31 and Tuesday, April 1 (Musical Theatre only); on Thursday, April 3 and Monday, April 7 (Drama only); and auditions for both companies will be held on Wednesday, April 2 and Friday, April 4.

All auditions require a two-minute memorized monologue (no poems or school speeches please) and a song to sing a capella, if auditioning for the musical theatre company. Bring a resumé and a recent photo.

Call the Theatre Orangeville box office to arrange your audition time at 519-942-3423 or 1-800- 424-1295.
