Peewee Wolves sweep Meaford in consolation
THE SHELBURNE ATOM REP squad wrapped up their 2007-08 season going undefeated over the weekend of April 11-13 in Buffalo, New York to win their division of the Pepsi Invitational Hockey Tournament. Contributed Photo The Shelburne Wolves Peewee Rep team, sponsored by Auto Centre, took on Meaford for the Georgian Bay Consolation Championship.
Game one took place at home ice on Friday March 14, 2008.
Shelburne took an early lead to the game when Owen Bennington scored first on a pass from Billy Travis.
Bennington earned a hat trick this game as he scored the second goal, unassisted and then the winning goal on a pass from Jamie Bennett.
Game one went to Shelburne with an exciting 3-2 win.
Game two took place in Meaford on Monday, March 17th.
Bennett started off the game with the first goal, assisted by Storm Evans and Jake Nicholson.
Lucas Newmaster scored next from Bennett and Mac Smillie. Justin Dyke scored the third goal from Bennett and Ty McCallum.
Bennett scored what would be the game winning goal, unassisted.
Evans popped in the insurance goal assisted by Nicholson and Mitchell Lee. Cole Newton scored the final goal, unassisted on the open net. Shelburne takes game 2 on a 6-3 win.
The third and final game took place at home on March 20th.
With music blaring, fans cheering, the boys really came together and fought an exciting and close battle.
The play was up and down the ice, the score back and forth between the two teams, but Shelburne took the game 5-3, with the winning goal coming late in the third and the final goal getting past the Meaford goalie with seconds on the clock.
Goalie Dylan Gray was amazing between the pipes for all 3 games with goalie Jamie Pate cheering him on from sunny skies.
