Outlaws kick-off
Photo/MIKE MALONEY PLAY BALL. The season is now well underway for the Orangeville Men's Slo-Pitch league. Tuesday night TJ'S Hanger rolled to a 21-6 win over Team Chubb The Orangeville Outlaws Peewee squad started the season at home facing longtime rival Georgetown.
It was a slow start to the game, with both teams testing the other to find the advantage throughout the first half.
Penalties plagued the Peewee offence, which resulted in some missed scoring opportunities.
Orangeville's defense stepped up to the line and prevented Georgetown from getting away on the scoreboard while the offence found their groove.
The second half of the game is where the offence started to shine.
Adjustments made to the offence and defense squads during the week in preparation for the game paid off, with better on field communication between the players.
The defense continued to be strong, limiting Georgetown to one touchdown for the entire game.
The Peewee linebacker core played one solid game with special mention to Emmerson Small who moved from wide receiver to linebacker. In his new position, he recorded four sacs and 15 tackles on the day.
Final Score : Peewees 32 - Georgetown 6
The weather was perfect as the JV squad kicked off their home season playing against the Jr Ticats and were the first to hit the score sheet as Sam Hogenhout led them on a 10 play drive capped off with a Zac Gregory five yard plunge into the end zone.
The Ticats answered with a score of their own using a rather unorthodox offensive formation which proved to give the Outlaw defense trouble all day.
The Ticats took a 20-7 lead into the half and continued to build on that lead in the second half.
The Outlaws answered with two late scores one by Spencer Stubbins on a brilliant kick off return and one by Zac Gregory but it was too little too late as the Ticats evened their record at 1-1 with a 48-21 victory.
To mark the official opening of the Outlaws 2008 season, the Town of Orangeville has officially declared this Sunday, June 1st. Orangeville Outlaw Day.
To mark the occasion there is a full slate of game scheduled to take to the Westside field.
