Police union 31 months without contract
      The Orangeville Police Association released a statement yesterday complaining that while residents of the area enjoy living in one of the safest communities in Ontario, "a little-known issue in local policing looms in the background.

Decorated bicycles are a big part of the festival, along with music by live bands and other activities, in the village that straddles two municipalities.

The province-wide observance allows everyone to go fishing without needing a licence. For those three days (12:01 a.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday), Canadian residents can enjoy the fun of fishing in Ontario lakes and streams.

Commuters to get free rides to new bus terminal
      Orangeville-area commuters who travel south to Brampton and beyond by car are to be offered a public transit alternative that's hard to beat. Starting next Monday, June 30, Orangeville Transit buses will start servicing the town's new GO Transit bus terminal, and next fall the local transit service will offer free rides to anyone having a valid GO Transit ticket or pass.

Strawberries the focus at Saturday's market
      The popular "Strawberry Market Celebration" at downtown Orangeville's farmers' market, takes place this Saturday, June 28, when Jim Lindsay and the team of Orangeville Agricultural Society volunteers will be preparing and serving free strawberry smoothies and shortcake starting at 8 a.m.

Kinsmen told display sign welcome, but not at town hall
      A divided Orangeville council has narrowly rejected the town hall as a potential site for an electronic message sign being donated by the Orangeville Kinsmen Club. A motion by councillor Scott Wilson to accept the site preferred by the Kinsmen, at the corner of Broadway and Second Street, lost 4-3 when Mayor Rob Adams broke a tie.

Orangeville Citizen/Free Press and Economist DuBois and his Studio Singers sing!
      For the second time, Mark DuBois brought his Studio Singers to the Orangeville Opera House for an evening of delight. Mark's students can begin studying with him from their early teens. They have to audition, though, and he looks for more than singing ability; he looks for dedication, determination and a selfknowledge that says "I have to sing.

Part of the music video was shot in downtown Orangeville June 14 - on Mill Street with Broadway as the backdrop. The video was released this week. Originally from Newfoundland, Tara Oram placed sixth on Canadian Idol in 2007.

A Super Senior, A Super Seniors' Week, and All That Jazz
      Seniors' Week in Orangeville was a tremendous success. It was preceded by a bumper Blues and Jazz Festival attended by many seniors from across Ontario.
