Strawberries the focus at Saturday's market
The popular "Strawberry Market Celebration" at downtown Orangeville's farmers' market, takes place this Saturday, June 28, when Jim Lindsay and the team of Orangeville Agricultural Society volunteers will be preparing and serving free strawberry smoothies and shortcake starting at 8 a.m.
Ontario strawberries will be sold at Jose and Maria Sousa's booth. Peter and Jane Ponsen will be selling their local strawberries and Downey's strawberries from Caledon will be sold at Seasons on Mill Street booth.
Debbie Keeble offers freshly dipped chocolate strawberries and other treats at her booth.
Market friends are invited to enter the free weekly draw at the Market Information booth to win a flat of Downey's local strawberries.
Congratulations to Sheila Duncan, winner of last week's Seasons on Mill Street baked goods gift voucher. The information booth is next to the Second Street entry to Town Hall and washrooms for public use are inside.
Re-usable farmers' market shopping bags are free for market friends.
Whole Village CSA Farm is now at the market with their fresh, local, organic greens.
Hostas, lilies, roses, herbs, annuals and other hardy perennials are being offered in the Growers' Row on Second Street.
Market on Broadway won the Headwaters Tourism Event/Attraction Award for 2008, and the plaque and letters of congratulation will be on display this Saturday.
