Northmen A's take two of three

2008-06-26 / Sports

The Rayburn Construction Junior A Northmen continue to make moves both on and off the floor.

This past weekend, the Northmen took the show on the road, coming home with not just four of a possible six points but with two new player acquisitions.

Thursday night it was off to the Beach for a game against Toronto.

Matt Mcleod set the tone early with his first of three goals on the night, an unassisted marker just 20 seconds into the opening frame. Garrett Kerr added another pair while Craig England, Jon Harnett, Jason Noble and Jesse Gamble each added singles on the night. DJ Clevely and Deron Dempster, both call-ups from the Northmen B roster also contributed with third period goals along the way to an 11-6 win by Orangeville.

Friday night the Northmen machine continued to roll in Orillia.

Again it was McLeod with four on the night to lead Orangeville to a decisive 14-3 win over the Orillia -Rama Hammond Kings.

Sunday though proved not to be their day however.

Perhaps a long bus ride left the team still a bit asleep and Akwesasne were quick to capitalize on the Northmen lethargy building up a 6-3 lead

To their credit, Orangeville battled back through the final 40 minutes of play but a tough Akwesasne Indians squad were more than up to the challenge, holding on to hand Orangeville only their second loss of the season by way of an 8-6 final score.

Just before the league trading deadline on Friday, Northmen general manager Bob Clevely swung a deal with Toronto Beaches. In exchange for future draft picks, Orangeville acquired the services of a pair of 21 year olds - Todd Hosmer and Stephen Keogh. Combined, the pair have scored 50 goals this season for Toronto and should add some needed scoring punch up front for the Northmen.

This weekend ahead promises to be yet another busy one for the Northmen. Wednesday night it is off to Mississauga for a date with the Tomahawks( results unavailable at press time) then they rest until Saturday when the Six Nations Arrows come to town followed on Sunday by a rematch with Akwesasne.
