Lack of contract 'absurd'
It's completely absurd that our police have been operating without a contract since January 2006. Is it true that our service is one of the lowest paid in Ontario? At the very least, the Orangeville Police Service should be on par with the Dufferin/Caledon O.P.P. After all, they deal with very similar issues in this part of southern Ontario.
I'm surprised that the service is even able to maintain staffing levels with such discrepancies in pay (when compared to other police services). And I'm pretty sure that there won't be too many new recruits wanting to come and work in Orangeville when they can just as easily go elsewhere for a better salary.
It's time for the town to be responsible and put our Constables on par with other police services in the province. If not, perhaps members of the Police Board want to be the one's to respond to a disturbance call at 2 a.m. outside the local pub... I think not.
