      100 YEARS AGO Thursday, July 2, 1908 • A comprehensive system of street improvements is expected as the result of a visit to Orangeville last week by A. W. Campbell, Ontario's Deputy Minister of Public Works, during which he inspected the town's streets and sidewalks and addressed a public meeting in the town hall on the subject of road improvements.

In the Town of Mono, it's gravel pits versus trails
      Following a presentation last week by Ousman Valiante of Mono Nordic Ski Club (Nordic), Mono council will undertake a study of the relative costs of purchasing versus mining gravel, and consider whether it's prudent to risk losing part of a recreational facility by cutting down oak trees and digging for aggregates.

Canada Day celebrations draw thousands across county
      NEAR PERFECT WEATHER greeted the thousands that were out taking part in Canada Day celebrations across Dufferin County. Some of the options available ranged from a pancake breakfast in Shelburne, eating birthday cake in Orangeville to watching future talent taking to the stage in Mono all capped off by colourful pyrotechnic displays in the clear night skies.
