Tony Rose pool re-opening delayed

2008-09-04 / Local News

Orangeville's Parks and Recreation Department has announced there will be a projected three-week delay in re-opening the Tony Rose Memorial Sports Centre pool, due to a setback in installing a new dry-o-tron system — equipment that is essential to dehumidify the pool area.

The manufacture of the dry-o-tron equipment has been delayed and installation now won't be completed until near the end of September. The pool closed June 30 for the renovation project, was expected to reopen September 8, but the reopening is now projected to be Monday, September 29.

Parks and Recreation Director Sonya Pritchard says the pool staff has informed all of the main user groups — Otters swimming, Masters swimming, synchronized swimming and the regular aquafit and lane swim customers. She notes that everyone has been very understanding; realizing renovations don't always go as planned.

The pool staff has also reviewed the Alder Street Recreation Centre pool schedule and has been able to accommodate a number of the programs scheduled at Tony Rose to the Alder pool by running some things concurrently. Other programs are being modified to fit into the new schedule (i.e. the Bronze Medallion class will complete the First Aid portion of the course during the first two weeks and will then move into the pool in October). Some swimming lesson classes will be moved to Alder and some people will be encouraged to attend the Alder classes that are not full. Those not able to be accommodated will have their registration fees refunded or pro-rated as necessary.

Early morning lane swims, aquatic fit and low impact will be accommodated at Alder until Sept. 29 and the Monday and Wednesday public swims and lane swims have been rescheduled until then.

Weekly swim lessons on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays will be moved to Alder until Sept. 29. Red Cross lessons will be moved to Alder for two weeks. Tuesday night aquafit and lane swims will resume at Tony Rose on September 30. Water Polo will commence on September 30. Special Olympics will start on October 2. Thursday night aquafit will start October 2.

The Friday schedule has been moved to Alder until October 3 and the Saturday schedule has moved to Alder but the lane swim time will change from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For a complete September pool schedule for please visit www.orangeville.ca.
