Town completes purchase of Broadway parking lot

2008-09-04 / Local News

After months of tense negotiations, the Town of Orangeville has finally acquired the hotly contested parking lot property at 90 Broadway.

About a year ago, it appeared the town had made a routine land acquisition to replace the parking area it was about to lose to the Broadway Grande development.

Unfortunately, there was an error on the part of the vendors, an Ontario numbered company, and the land was actually sold to two parties, the town and Forecast Inc.

An agreement was finally reached Wednesday where the town dropped its own offer of purchase, took over Forecast's, and eventually finished the deal.

The plan is to have the lot, and its approximately 80 parking spaces, ready for use before the winter and before the current parking area has to be given up.
