Busy sports weekend

It will be a busy weekend for local sports fans.

Friday night, the Orangeville Crushers kick-off their 2008-09 season when they play host to Seguin at the Alder Street Community Centre. They then again take to the ice on Saturday night when Collingwood will be in town to go up against the hometown favourites. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Orangeville Minor Baseball wraps up their 2008 season when they take to the diamonds at Springbrook Park Saturday afternoon.

Play begins at 11 a.m. when the T-Ball division gets things going and continues through the afternoon until 4 p.m. when Mosquito division finalists take to the mound.

In Owen Sound, the Orangeville Storm U13 Girls are in contention for a shot at their Southwest Region Soccer League championship.

Starting on the pitch at 10 a.m. against Waterloo, the Storm hope to advance from this quarter-final pairing through the semi's to a berth in the cup final.

The Orangeville Kings are also in the hunt for a championship title as well.

On Saturday and again Sunday, the Kings trek south to Rockwood where they will compete over the weekend against five other teams, each vying the 2008 Intercounty Fastball Championship.

And finally, at 7 p.m on Saturday night ,the Centre Dufferin Recreation Centre will be the place to be as Detroit Red Wing veteran Aaron Downey and a few of his friend's will be joining forces to take on the Shelburne Muskies.

This event is a fundraiser for the recently formed House9 Foundation which helps raise funds for kids to participate in local sports
