Faiths in conversation

Following a successful "Faiths in Conversation" event last fall, the Joint Outreach Committee of The Parish of Mono and St. Mark's Anglican Church has organized a second event on Saturday, September 27 at St. John's Church on Highway 9 just east of Orangeville.

Leading this year's session, titled "Buddhism and Christian-centred Spirituality," will be Abbess Khenmo Drolma and Rev. Dr. Carol Kilby.

Abbess Drolma studied with some of the top spiritual teachers in the world, including the Dalai Lama. She spent years of study in India and then was asked to create a western community for nuns in Bristol, Vermont.

Abbess Drolma travels internationally, lecturing and teaching on topics that introduce the public to the special compassion trainings contained in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Dr. Kibly is an ordained United Church minister who has trained at the University of Creation Spirituality with the Rev. Matthew Fox. She is Executive Director of the Gaia Centre for Eco- Spirituality and Sustainable Work.

The day, which costs $15 for adults and $5 for students, will include talks by both participants in the morning which will be followed by a question period. Following lunch (which is provided) there will be two workshops, which will be repeated so that all can attend both.

Anyone interested in attending this special day should contact St. Mark's at 519-941-0640 to reserve a place.

Reserved tickets will be picked up at St. John's on the day of the event.

People of all faiths are welcome to attend.
