Novice Flyers move into first after wins

The Southwood Graphics Novice AA Flyers improved their Tri- County regular season record to 8-1 with three wins last week, moving them into first place in their division.

Orangeville hosted Guelph on Wednesday night and picked up a 6-1 win.

Goaltender Liam McIllwraith lost his bid for a shut-out with 14.1 seconds left in the game after the Flyers had built up a 6-0 lead by scoring one in the first period, two in the second and three in the third.

Ryan Boon had a three point game while Brendan Chapman and Owen Robinson added two points a piece.

Ryan Bowie, Evan Moore, Elgin Cooke, Dakota Zarudny and Devon Dunkerley rounded out the scoring with a point each.

On Saturday afternoon the Flyers travelled to Flamborough looking to exact revenge on the Sabres, who handed Orangeville their only loss of the season in the first game of the year.

The Flyers came out strong with three first period goals only to have Flamborough chip away at the lead, scoring once in the second period and tying it up with two more goals in the third.

Orangeville would score with 2:42 left in the game to pull out a 4-3 victory.

Kyle Whitton and Robinson led the way with two points each and Boon, Cooke, Chapman, Bowie, Zarudny and goalie McIllwraith chipped in with a point as well.

The next afternoon, Orangeville continued their southern road trip through Stoney Creek and trounced the Warriors 9-0, out shooting them 33-4 along the way.

Robinson paced the attack with three points while Tanner Buck, Justin Stairs and Moore picked up two points each.

Kurtis Cotton, Whitton, Bowie, Zarudny, Boon, Chapman and Dunkerley added a point a piece while McIllwraith picked up his third shut-out of the season.

Orangeville hosts Ancaster on Wednesday and travels to Caledon East to face off against the Caledon Hawks on Friday night.
