2008-11-27 / Local News

The driver of a dump truck that killed one person and injured five others on Highway 9 in October 2006 is among the criminal cases to be heard currently in a non-jury trial in Superior Court at Orangeville.

Rory Guyah, 36, of Woodbridge was charged with dangerous driving causing death, as well as five counts of dangerous driving causing injury, after the dump truck he was operating crashed into three vehicles that were stopped behind a school bus.

Denise Leblanc, 25, was killed in the crash as she was a backseat passenger in a Ford Focus driven by her parents, Dennis LeBlanc and Marilyn LeBlanc of Orangeville, both of whom were seriously hurt in the collision, according to news reports of the time.

Three other persons, including Betty Dameron of Shelburne, also sustained injuries. Mr. Guyah was unhurt. He was arrested and charged at the scene.

In other cases before the court, the jury trial for Justin Brooks of Orangeville has been scheduled to begin Monday. Mr. Brooks is facing charges involving weapons and assault.
