The Orangeville Tigers were the toast of the town as the group successfully hosted the 31st edition of the Sweetheart Hockey Tournament this past weekend.

This annual event saw an estimated 1,300 players forming 74 teams take to the ice competing in 14 divisions over the course of the past weekend.

Starting on Friday night with the presentation of championship banners and the ceremonial puck drop, teams played almost non stop on the five local ice pads Friday evening and Saturday, wrapping up Sunday with the semifinal and championship games being played.

While all the Tigers teams showed well in the tournament an number of them earned berths to the semi-finals and then onto the finals in their respective division.

Leading the way for Orangeville was the Novice C squad who set the championship standard for the Tigers, posting a huge 7-0 victory to win their division.

Following closely behind them were the Bantam B Girls who's scored a pair of goals off the top of the third to break a scoreless deadlock then hung on to edge North Halton 2-1 in their championship game.

The Atom B girls were less fortunate however, dropping a tough 3-1 decision to a very strong Sudbury Wolves squad.

Rounding out the tournament, Orangeville again found themselves winning by a score of 2-1. This time it was the Peewee BB squad doing what they had to do to edge Waterloo in their championship match.
