Atom Flyers win West Mall tournament
The Orangeville Flyers Atom Select team travelled to Etobicoke over the Easter weekend to compete in the West Mall Lightening Select tournament.
The Flyers went a perfect 5-0 to win the tournament led by dominating play of Corey Bois with 15 goals and 4 assists over the 5 games.
The Flyers started out against the host West Mall Lightening with a convincing 8-0 victory.
Callum Bolland and Simon Stenning shared the shut out.
Game two action saw a thriller between a gritty Flyers squad Orangeville who held off a spirited challenge from the Intra-City champion Caledon Blackhawks to post a 5- 4 victory.
The last game of the round robin saw the Flyers defeat the Weston Dodgers by a 9- 3 score.
Orangeville faced a tough North Toronto team in the semi-finals on Easter morning, coming away with a hard fought 4-2 victory.
Jacob Stadnyk made a tremendous shot block, stealing the puck and going in for an empty net goal in the last minute to seal the win
The championship game saw Orangeville facing the Caledon Blackhawks for the sec- ond time in the tournament, and a determined, hard working Flyer team came away with a 4-1 victory to win the tournament.
A strong team effort where the Flyers played with grit and determination
The Flyers received tremendous goaltending all weekend from Callum Bolland and Simon Stenning, as well as a solid defensive effort from Sullivan Murphy, Nash Patton, Mitchell Amos and Scott Culver.
The Flyer scoring was led by Corey Bois with 15 goals and four assists followed by and Jacob Stadnyk who scored six and assisted on a another pair.
