Midget B Tigers earn bronze at LLFHL championships

Orangeville's Midget B Tigers finished their 2008- 09 season recently in style, earning themselves a bronze medal at the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League Championships held in Oshawa and with a spirited showing at the Provincial Championships subsequent to that.

Finishing second to Georgina by only two points in regular season league pool play, the Tigers earned themselves a bye to the second round of the playoffs, where they came up against a tough challenge from Orillia.

Playing to a pair of 2-2 ties in games one and two, Orangeville took the series in a nail biter, winning 3-2 in overtime.

Next, they faced firstplace Georgina for the division title. Again playing to a 2-2 tie in game one, the Tigers stepped it up to take game two at home by a score of 2-1 then capped the series, winning 3-2 in Georgina.

Winning the division title earned the girls a berth at the LLFHL championship weekend where, after a tough 1-0 loss to Burlington in their first game, the Tigers rebounded to defeat Mississauga to take the bronze.

Playing at the provincials, Orangeville came up against some much stronger, more experienced teams but none the less, stood their ground. Dropping games to Temiskiming and Lambton Shores, the Tigers exacted a bit of revenge on the same Burlington team that had defeated them at the LLFHL championships - edging them 2-1.
