Kings over Valley
It has been a long winter but the Orangeville Kings seem to have picked up right where they left off last year, winning their first two games of the 2009 season. Playing at home on Tuesday night, the Kings added to last Thursday nights 15-5 romp over the Arthur Merchants, pulling off a come from behind 9-5 win over Grand Valley.
Down 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, a double off the bat of Mike Brooks brought home runners from first and third. Kyle Anderson followed up next, tagging a triple to bring in Brooks then a single by Kent Campbell cashed in Anderson from third.
Orangeville starting pitcher Joel Pegg would then exact a dab of revenge on Grand Valley starter Kyle Coles. Pegg, who gave up a solo shot home run to Coles the inning before, doubled a pitch from the Valley pitcher to bring in Campbell and end the inning with Orangeville up 7-4.
Anderson took over duties on the mound for Orangeville in the fifth, allowing Grand Valley just a single run to add to their tally.
Making their way through the batting order again, it was Campbell's single in the bottom of five scoring Brooks and Greg Hickey to make it 9-5 where the score would remain to give Orangeville the victory.
The Kings next see action Monday night when they head to Ponsonby then its back home to Idlewyld Park on Tuesday night for a 9 p.m. date with Hillsburgh.
