Former minister convicted, area men face trials
      A retired Mono Mills minister, Rev. William Major, has been sentenced to two years less a day in provincial jail on sexual assault charges involving an adult female parishioner over almost five years, beginning in 1996. His was only one of four instances in which area residents have been facing serious criminal charges.

Christian School cuts tuition fees one-third
      Orangeville Christian School (OCS) has announced that tuition fees for the 2009-10 school year have been reduced by one third. In announcing the move, the private, faithbased school on Veterans Way said it had been accomplished "while still maintaining the quality and integrity of the product that the school has now offered for 30 years.

Another landmark is disappearing, making room for the future
      The building that stood at the corner of Elizabeth and Faulkner Streets for more than 60 years will soon be gone, replaced by a large new seniors' residence. Now being demolished, the single-storey structure started life as the site of Merchants Supply, a company founded by Alvin Grigg.

      Dirk Evans, a Christian Reformed minister specializing in clinical teaching of pastoral care, began leading workshops in Shelburne in 1996, and last week, his new book, "Hi how are you?" on the topic of lay ministry was dedicated to the Shelburne Chaplaincy Network.

Orangeville accepts Woodstock energy challenge
      The Town of Orangeville has joined the Count Me In! community challenge that's under way until August 14, the anniversary of the North American blackout in 2003. Mayor Rob Adams joined Wednesday's announcement, indicating that Orangeville plans to be a "fierce competitor" in a challenge issued by Woodstock Mayor Michael Harding.

Local men face charges in assaults
      Orangeville police have made arrests in three separate incidents involving assaults or sexual assaults. A 19-year-old Orangeville man faces multiple charges in connection with a violent dispute on Hillside Drive. Police went to the address at about 4 a.m.

UG secondary schools superintendent resigns
      At its regular monthly meeting held Tuesday, May 26, the Upper Grand District School Board was told that its Secondary Superintendent of Schools has announced his resignation, effective August 31. David Euale started his career in 1974 as a teacher, and has spent 21 of his 35 years in education as a vice principal, principal, and superintendent of schools.
