Local men face charges in assaults

Orangeville police have made arrests in three separate incidents involving assaults or sexual assaults.

A 19-year-old Orangeville man faces multiple charges in connection with a violent dispute on Hillside Drive.

Police went to the address at about 4 a.m. Sunday on being told that a dispute between the accused and a female had escalated to the point where he had brandished a knife when a second male attempted to intervene. The female was not injured but the second male received cuts to his shoulder, ear, forearm and hand.

Police say the accused then retrieved a piece of lumber from the ground and began striking a car, causing several dents. The female and male complainants fled the scene and went to police, who attended the scene and arrested the accused without incident.

Jordan Taeshan Winston Grant, 19, faces several criminal charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault, mischief and breach of a court order. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Meanwhile, police have arrested and charged two Orangeville men with sexual assault charges in separate incidents.

In one incident a 41- year-old man is alleged to have fondled a 14-year-old female in January. He has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age.

A second 41-year-old male is alleged to have fondled a 13-year-old female in December 2008. He also faces charges of sexual assault and sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age.

Both men were held in custody pending bail hearings, and in both cases the alleged victim and the accused were known to each other.

Meanwhile, Orangeville Police are seeking help from the public regarding a break-in at a Centennial Road business and theft of a motor vehicle from a residence on Howard Crescent.

Sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, intruders broke into the office/storage building of Bag-O-Sand at 14 Centennial Road and made off with a business computer.

The same night, a brown 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier was stolen from the driveway of a Howard Cres. residence. It is believed to have been taken sometime between 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
