Dinah Christie to address Seniors Forum
Photo/DAN PELTON ACTOR/SINGER DINAH CHRISTIE dropped by Town Hall last week to hold a press conference and sign autographs for Mayor's Senior Advisory Committee members Councillor Mary Rose and Steve Elliott. Ms. Christie will speak to the Seniors Forum June 11. Actor/singer Dinah Christie will be the headliner at the Seniors Forum at the Lord Dufferin Centre next Thursday, June 11.
At a recent press conference, Ms. Christie demonstrated that, at 66, she is every bit as sassy as the Dinah Christie who belted out satirical tunes on CBC's This Hour Has Seven Days in 1965 and who played a mean game of charades on The Party Game for 10 seasons.
Born in 1942, she predates the Baby Boomer generation by just a couple of years, yet she will not categorize herself as being part of any particular age group. Instead, she prefers to call herself a "zoomer."
And she is certainly no advocate of a mandatory retirement age. "People ask me when I'll retire," said Ms. Christie. "I think it will be when I'm dead."
In short, she is representative of a range of seniors who continue to be a dynamic demographic.
"There are many more of us living and we are stronger than at any time in history," she points out.
Ms. Christie is currently involved in a number of projects, including writing a musical drama about First Nations poet and writer Pauline Johnson. She is also the assistant director of Clooney Tunes, a review featuring the music of Rosemary Clooney.
As well, she sings with a swing band called the Windjammers and is a master of natural healing art of reiki.
Asked if she will impart some pearls of wisdom at the Forum, organized by the Mayor's Seniors' Advisory Committee, Ms. Christie quipped: "I hope I'm smart enough, have read enough, have no near misses on the highway, and have enough caffeine in me to do that."
