JV Outlaws de-claw Eagles
It was a weekend on the road for both the Peewee and JV Outlaws squads.
Playing in Brampton on Saturday, the Peewee's were in the hunt for their second win of the season.
Hoping to pick up where they had left off the week before. when they had trounced Halton 38-0, a confident Outlaws team took to the field only to have the equally determined Bulldogs grind to a 18- 12 win.
Penalties played a key roll in the win for Brampton with Orangeville being assessed over 75 yards in penalties. "You cannot win a game with 75 plus yards in penalties called against you - it takes the wind out of your sails" commented coach Mike Lepore after the game. He was quick to tip his hat thought to his defensive squad, "They played a good solid game and came through for us when needed."
The next game for the Peewee Outlaws is this Sunday afternoon when they host Tottenham at 12:30 p.m. on the field at Westside Secondary.
Looking to improve their season record to 3- 1, the Outlaws JV team trekked south to Martingrove Collegiate for a match up against the Etobicoke Eagles last Saturday afternoon.
Led by veteran QB Sam Hogenhout and the running back tandem of Norm Craig and Liam Smith, the Outlaws offence came out firing on all cylinders, quickly
jumping out to a 20-6 halftime lead.
Craig led the way in the first half with three majors. The offense line led by Andrew Gerold and Tyler Kirkpatrick opened up huge running lanes for the backs and constantly offered great pass protection to Hogenhout, who was able to augment the running game with key passes to Jamal Kett, Tyler Kent and Tanner Publow.
The second half offered more of the same as the Outlaw running attack continued to give the Eagle defence fits. Craig capped his day off with two more majors on the ground ( 5 in total) before being replaced by his brother Tyler Craig who also ran one in from 65 yards out,
Orangeville scoring was completed on a great touchdown pass from Hogenhout to Kent to make the the final score 47-13.
As has been the case all year, the Outlaw defence stifled the Eagles offence constantly and very solid performances were turned in by Peter DiSalvo, Todd Smith, Connor Malone and Nick Chamberland. The defence constantly put pressure the Eagles QB and forced two interceptions in the process.
Working better each week as a unit, the 'D' line only looks to be getting stronger every game.
The Outlaws have a bye week ( June 14) and return back to Westside field on June 21 in a rematch with the Eagles
