Kings lead league

The Orangeville Kings continue to make the most of strong pitching and timely hitting, extending their 2009 Intercounty Fastball league record to 6-0 with wins over Arthur and Hillsburgh last week.

Playing at home on Tuesday, it was the second meeting of these two clubs this season and just as they had in the first, Orangeville controlled the game from start to finish.

Jeff Donaldson had one of the hottest bats on this night, knocking out a two-run homer while counting for four RBI's.

Pitcher Joel Pegg would also chip in with a thee-run shot over the fence later in the game. Pegg also went the distance on the mound for Orangeville as the Kings rolled to a 11-1 final score.

The next night it was on the road for a rematch with the Hillsburgh Stallions.

Pitcher Scott Gordon was in the zone as he struck out 14 batters while only giving up two runs. Rich Long was the go-to guy this night, going three for four at the plate to cash in four RBI's on the way to a 8-1 win for Orangeville.

The weekend found Orangeville getting tuned up for the ISC II regional qualifier in two weeks. Playing at the Mitchell Mets Tournament, the Kings dropped a squeaker to Glencoe Astros, coming up on the short side of a 1-0 decision on Friday night.

Saturday morning, they turned the tables by edging the Waterloo Hallman Twins 4-3 in a nine-inning thriller only to drop their afternoon game by a score of 6-1 to the Mitchell Jr. Chiefs.

Fastball action returns to Idlewyld Park next Tuesday evening when Rockwood makes their way to town for a 9 p.m start against the Kings.
