Lakers and Indians fall to Northmen
The Rayburn Construction Northmen have solidified their position atop the OLA Junior A standings after posting three consecutive wins this past weekend.
Playing at home Friday night, Adam Jones marked his return to the Northmen lineup from the injured list, scoring three and assisting on three others . Brandon Ivey chipped in with a pair of powerplay markers while Jon Harnett, Jeremy Noble, Sean Gillies and John Quarrie added singles on the way to a 9-5 decision over Peterborough.
Sunday, it was on the bus for the long trip east to Akwesasne for the first meeting of these two teams this year.
Dominating the game from start to finish, Orangeville cranked up the offense once again while the goaltending duo of Nick Rose and Dylan Ward stymied the opposition time and time again on the way to a 16-2 win.
Ivey would wield the big stick this game, with three goals and three assists. Jeremy Noble, Jesse Gamble, Cody McMahon and Harnett each tallied for two while Jones and Quarrie joined with Brett Ritchie, Andrew Suitor and Craig England recording singles.
Tuesday night, the Northmen found themselves again facing the Lakers but this time in Peterborough.
England, Jones and Jordan Critch each scored for Orangeville in the first period, offsetting three by the Lakers to start the second period tied at 3-3.
Shaking off their bus legs, the Northmen cranked up the pace through the mid frame. Noble and Jones each put one into the back of the Lakers goal before Peterborough managed to get one past Rose at 16:03.
Less than a minute later, Deron Dempster teamed up with Gamble and Travis Gibbons to get that one back followed by another from Noble making it 7-4 heading into the final 20 minutes of play. In the third, Harnett, Ivey and Gillies each counted for one against a pair of Lakers goals to set the final score at 10-6 in favour of the Northmen.
This weekend has Orangeville at home for back to back games against the second place Burlington Chiefs on Saturday night then hosting Barrie Lakeshores on Sunday.
Saturday night is also Northmen Alumni Night at the Tony Rose. In addition to the booster club being held upstairs in the Banquet Hall, members of the 1989 & 1990 Northmen Junior B Founders Cup Championship teams will be honoured on the floor in a pre-game ceremony.
Game time for both Saturday and Sunday night is scheduled for 7 p.m.
