Chantree farm site of amateur radio field day Saturday

The Paul Chantree farm near Riverview will be the scene this weekend of a Field Day demonstration by amateur radio devotees, courtesy of the Dufferin Amateur Radio Emergency Service.

Theme of the day is, "Where the spirit of 'Amateur Radio Past' joins forces with the Next Generation of Innovations, Interests and Individuals."

The ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League) Field Day is the most popular on-the-air operating event in amateur radio. Each year, on the fourth full weekend of June, tens of thousands of amateur radio operators gather for a public demonstration of the service. It's part educational event, part operating event, part public relations event - and all about fun for the participants.

Amateur radio is both a hobby and a service that offers "something for everyone."

For more information on amateur radio and the ARRL, the national organization for Amateur Radio, visit www.arrl.org .

The local Field Day will see the "hams" operating for 24 hours, from 2 p.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday. The farm can be reached by going five miles (8 km) west of Shelburne on Highway 89 to Sideroad 7 (Riverview Sideroad). Turn north to County Road 17, then west to the second house on the north side of the road.
