Thanks for Seniors week

2009-07-02 / Mailbox

On behalf of the Mayor's Seniors' Advisory Committee I would like to express gratitude to all of the participants of the Seniors Forum and hope everyone enjoyed "Seniors Month" in June and especially the special events our Committee arranged for Seniors Week - June 8th-13th.

Thank you to the Town of Orangeville, the Downtown Merchants (BIA), the Lord Dufferin Centre (LDC), Orangeville Legion, and the Seniors Centre for providing a week of fun and entertainment.

The highlight of the week was our 2nd annual Seniors Forum held at the LDC. 100 seniors enjoyed a day of being recognized for their contributions to the community. They were entertained by former Councillor Jennifer Walmsley, Ms. Dinah Christie and the Lord Dufferin Choir. There were gifts for everyone, door prizes, and booths full of information from agencies and organizations dealing with seniors' issues.

Thanks to our major sponsors - Town of Orangeville, LDC, Egan Funeral Home Baxter & Giles Chapel, Dods & Mc Nair Funeral Home, Compassionate Care, Dufferin Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, and Help Call.

We were delighted to receive donations from As We Grow, Avalon, Avon, Boston Pizza, Booklore, Canadian Tire, Carters Professional Corporation, County of Dufferin, Curves, David Tilson MP, DUCA Credit Union, First Impressions, First Street Optical, Harmony Whole Foods, Heritage Home, Home at Last, Insta Plus, Jeffers Pharmacy, Mad Hatter Pub, Metro, Mind Body Parity, One Elizabeth Street, Orangeville Legion, Parsons' Florist, Royal Bank of Canada, Sylvia Jones MPP, SNAP Dufferin, Theatre Orangeville, The Jewel 88.5 fm, Wellington-Dufferin- Guelph Public Health, and Zehrs Foods.

A special thank you to the Mayor's Seniors' Advisory Committee for months of hard work and effort to bring this day to fruition. We look forward to doing this all again for June 2010...mark your calendars.

Councillor Mary T. Rose,

Chair Mayor's Seniors' Advisory
