$6M Dufferin-Caledon projects funded: Tilson
Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson last Friday announced more than $6- million in federally funded infrastructure projects in the riding.
He said the federal money, part of the Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program, will allow a start on several recreational projects throughout the region.
The federal, provincial and municipal governments will each be providing one third ($2,021,845) of the total $6,065,535.
The projects will renew, upgrade and expand existing recreational facilities throughout the riding, while creating new jobs and contributing to the health and wellbeing of Dufferin-Caledon communities. Federal contributions toward projects in Dufferin include:
• $59,346 toward upgrades of the East Luther Grand Valley Community Centre mechanical room and ice surface;
• $84,000 toward the Township of Mulmur (Honeywood) Arena upgrades;
• $13,333 to Amaranth Township to replace and relocate playground equipment;
• $110,000 for extension of the Orangeville Rail Trail;
• $22,000 for washrooms at the Township of Mulmur Community Park.
The federal contributions toward projects in Caledon include:
• $75,000 toward a Bolton skate park expansion;
• $891,000 for a Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness Youth Centre expansion;
• $495,000 for upgrades at the Mayfield Recreation Complex;
• $99,166 to reconstruct the Caledon East Ballpark building and amenities;
• $70,000 for resurfacing the Caledon Trailway, and
• $70,000 for the Alton ballpark washroom building and pavilion reconstruction.
Additionally, the Toronto Region Conservation Authority received $33,000 for Albion Hills Conservation Area trail enhancements.
"Recreational infrastructure strengthens our communities, both physically and economically," said Mr. Tilson. "These projects will bring residents of Dufferin-Caledon together to get fit and have fun, as well as create local jobs, something this government is committed to doing."
