Former MPP dead at 78
Jack Johnson, who represented the western half of Dufferin County in the Ontario Legislature for 15 years, 1975 - 1990, died last Thursday, June 25, at his home in Mount Forest.
A long-time owner of a Mount Forest men's wear store, Mr. Johnson served as Progressive Conservative MPP for Wellington-Dufferin riding. He also served as a municipal councillor and Mayor of Mount Forest. John McLellan (Jack) Johnson was in his 79th year.
He was the husband of the late "Marnie" Marie Lynn (Johnston) and father of Rt. Rev. Colin Johnson, Anglican Bishop of Toronto, and his wife Ellen, of Toronto; Paul Johnson and his wife Paula, of Guelph, and Sheri Johnson of Mount Forest.
He leaves grandchildren Andrea MacLean and husband Brad, of Windsor; Rachel and Timothy Johnson, of Toronto; Michael Frey and Cheryl, of Fergus; Jennifer McCorquodale and Mark Truax, Michelle, Sarah and Mark McCorquodale of Mount Forest, and great-grandson Ethan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Dan and wife Daisy.
Visitation was held Sunday and Monday at the Hendrick Funeral Home, Mount Forest, and a Lions Club service was held Monday evening.
A memorial service took place Tuesday morning at Mount Forest United Church.
Memorial donations may be made to Mount Forest United Church, the Lions Foundation of Canada, Cancer Patient services, or Arthritis Society.
