Jones blasts funding formula for doctor recruitment
      Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones is concerned that proposed revisions to the province's Underserviced Area Program (UAP) could mean communities in her riding will lose financial incentives to recruit doctors for the area.

WE HAZ JAZZ:
      Theatre Orangeville Musical Theatre Program participants (children ages 11-16) will be performing the mini-musical We Haz Jazz this Saturday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Opera House. The production is a lively romp through the history of great jazz rhythms and will feature 39 local youth who participated in the recent one or two-week musical theatre program.

Upper Grand school board plans for fight against H1N1 virus
      The onslaught of "swine flu" globally has been so swift that the World Health Organization is now describing it as something of an unstoppable pandemic. Former chief now Oxford's top cop
      Former Orangeville police chief Rod Freeman will officially become chief of the Oxford Community Police in Woodstock on October 26, 2009. He joined the force as deputy chief in 2007 after serving as Orangeville police chief for eight years, and has been Oxford's acting chief since the retirement of Ron Fraser in June.

      While the guest of honour was unable to attend, proprietor Brian Bavis of Watermaker in Orangeville was toasted for his ongoing contribution to the Easter Seals Run/Walkathon, an event that has taken place for 33 years. For 25 of those, Mr. Bavis has supplied water to the participants.

      SOPRANO MEGHAN COMPEAU was the featured performer Sunday at the Dufferin County Museum and Archives. Her concert was part of the museum's Summer Concert Series. The next concert is August 16 at 2 p.m. and will celebrate the museum's 15th anniversary. The revue will feature Daniel LaBrash, Susan Pitch, Susan Cooper, David Pounds, Neil Daniard and Dorothy Jane Needles.

Former ER doctor joins Orangeville clinic
      Dr. Karen Sandhu has joined the Orangeville Family Medical Centre as a family practitioner. Dr. Sandhu has been a physician with Headwaters Health_Care Centre's Emergency department since 2008. "I am excited about opening my family practice in Orangeville," Dr. Sandhu said.

      Over the next several weeks, Canadian Blood Services is anticipating that hospitals will need more blood for patients than they currently expect to collect. Adding long weekends to the mix only intensifies the problem. The solution to the problem? More blood donations. And Shelburne residents will have a special opportunity to help out.

ACCIDENT CLOSES HOCKLEY ROAD:
      At approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday a truck left the road at the intersection of Hockley Road and Third Line Mono, causing Hockley Road to be closed for a number of hours. The driver was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. The investigation was still underway at press time and there was no announcement if charges had been laid.

Honeywood BBQ 'social event of season'
      This Saturday, what has been viewed historically as "the social event of the season" will unfold once more at the Honeywood Arena. For more than 50 years, citizens from miles around have travelled to the tiny community for a fine beef barbeque with all the trimmings. Rumour has it, "that in days gone by", the ladies purchased a new outfit just for the event.

Museum celebrates 15 years of collecting
      Since opening its doors at the corner of Airport Road and Highway 89 in 1994, the Dufferin County Museum and Archives has received more than 15,000 donations. Some of these objects demonstrate the skills and ingenuity of our early furniture makers and potters; others the artistic abilities of local quilt makers and dressmakers.
