'Looking' Century Theatre's current comedy
If you're "Looking" for a good time, call Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh.
"Looking", the hit comedy by Canada's most popular playwright Norm Foster, opened at the theatre last week to a record first-day audience.
This is a fabulously funny script, filled with hilarious one-liners and sparkling dialogue that strikes a chord of recognition among both men and women, as we readily identify with the guy talk and the girl talk about love, sex, and the problems of middleage dating. This is Foster at his witty best, everything you could want in an adult, 21st century, romantic comedy.
The play follows four very different characters on a journey to find the right relationship. The story is brought to life by sparkling performances by four experienced actors. Our hearts go out to the insecure and unsophisticated Andy, touchingly played by Frank Rempel, who is looking for a relationship, and is desperate enough to advertise in the Personals.
Tamara Kunder, as the tender yet tough Val who answers the ad, skillfully draws us into the frustrations and aspirations of a woman whose last experience with a man came when her breasts were two inches higher. Two friends are coerced into going along on the blind date in a pub called The Private Dick.
Elizabeth Glenday gives a strong performance as Nina, the tough cop who thinks she does not need a man for more than an hour, while Wayne Moore is classic as Andy's broadcaster friend, Matt, with his nottoo reliable advice.
All four discover hidden depths as they journey through the thrills and disasters of several dates. If you're looking for fun and laughter, and a two-kleenex ending, you cannot do better than see "Looking", playing through this Saturday, July 25. The show runs at 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and at 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $22 - $27, and can be reserved by calling the box office at 519-855-4586. For more details, visit www. centurychurchtheatre. com
