Rail: a vastly better alternative

WHATEVER ELSE might be said, if the quarry operation envisioned by The Highland Companies is approved, the last thing we would want to see is use of former Highway 24 as the route taken for its output.

Whether by means of a sale or long-term lease, Dufferin County Council ought to remove any obstacles to restoration of rail service on the former CPR line between Orangeville and Shelburne so as to make an industrial spur to the quarry a viable alternative to road transport.

Even without the prospect of a quarry, the availability of rail service would make Shelburne a much more attractive site for rail-reliant industries, in addition to the potential customers already there.
